This This powerful film zeroes in on on the universal longing we all have for acceptance. It is a touching story of a young African-American's deep desire to come to terms with his origin. This movie is based on the autobiography of Antwone Fisher, a young sailor prone to violent outbursts. When sent to seek help from a naval psychiatrist, he refuses at first to open up, but eventuall breaks down and reveals a horrific childhood. Blessed by the guidance of his new doctor, he confronts his painful past and begins a quest to find the family he never knew. This movie stresses the importance of having a wise "go - to" person in your life. There is a lot to deal with in life even when you don't have the problems Antwone had. This personal narrative stresses the importance of confronting your past, seeking help, guidance and support, and opening oneself to relationships that nourish the soul and leads to healing and and a fulfilling life experience. The underlying themes include: knowing that we all have the power to to choose how we respond to difficulties in life, forgiveness, healing and connection through meaningful relationships.
The day begins with registration and lunch at 11:30am and ends about 3:30pm.
